9:41 am - hot and cold
What's with this damned weather?

It goes from the 40s-50s in the day to the 80s then back again!! I mean I'm not a fan of cold weather but its December dammit and I'd rather it just pick what its gonna be and stick to it!

I feel like it's been unseasonably rainy too. I thought our rainy season ends with the end of hurricane season...

O well...

I'm pretty much done with the xmas shopping. My sister's b/f is coming down with her so I'm going to have to figure out something for him. My mom told me he's into renewable energy and politics... lol, I'm not sure how helpful that is for gift buying.

The big challenge will be how to fit all the gifts and Indie in the back of the mini!

A little over a week left... wee!

Oh yeah, and we're planning a trip to Hawai'i in April! We haven't done a big trip since Japan so I'm stoked... I think we've settled on Kauai. It seems more laid back and naturey. I'm really not looking for Mai-Tais and Luaus. I want something more authentic. The only crappy thing is that the active volcanoes are only on the big island and it seems pretty expensive to get from Kauai to there so we might have to skip the lava :(

We haven't really looked at any tucked away places on the big island... We just sort've honed in on Kauai. If anyone's been and has info let me know!

9:36 am - BBRRRRRR
39 degrees out!

It cleared up wonderfully yesterday. The sun was actually out for my lesson. Haha 1/4 of the ring was under water though... C to M and down to B was basically a pond :)

We had a great lesson nonetheless.

The high is supposed to be in the 60s, we'll see if it ever gets there. I hate riding in the cold :(

2 more weeks till Im off for xmas....

9:58 pm - I havent posted in a while
SOOOO

Bought my Mini a couple weeks ago. Went down to Orlando on the weekend before Thanksgiving.

I foresee some badges, a new white hood scoop, maybe some flames, maybe some stars, and much more nonsense to be applied to the car in the very near future. The holiday shopping moratorium is in full effect so I can't actually buy anything myself until after Christmas :)

It makes me happy to see my "Meep" in the parking lot every day... just waiting for me to drive. I'm really wishing I lived somewhere that had some curves. The most fun I've had so far is making myself light headed while flying around the curve at the Williston exit. I would definitely like to take the car out to the Gainesville track next time they have an open day. It will satisfy my urge to fling myself recklessly around in my turbo charged go kart!

Thanksgiving was nice. We went to Carlos' cousin's house in Kendall... very tasty sweet potatoes haha. Only a couple more weeks till I'm off for xmas. I didn't get to see my mom over Thanksgiving so it will be nice to see her and the rest of my fam over the holidays.

Ugh, then no more days off for a while :(

I'm really hoping the weather people are wrong and it is clear on Saturday. I haven't ridden in 3 weeks and I've got a lesson with Greta that I'm looking forward to. Haha, out of complete frustration for Kiko's corpse like enthusiasm when I ride, I decided to get new spurs (I used to ride in these nubby tom thumbs, I just got some 3/4" prince of wales spurs)... Im contemplating the likelyhood of me hitting the dirt if I use them this weekend. For a while I didn't use them because I wasn't confident of my ability after having had such a long break... but I'm definitely over that and I need some response when I give that monster a cue. I'm trying to learn shit on him and he's like, nah she's a wuss!

Ok this has turned into a long post! I think thats about all for the ramblings for now.

1:14 pm - meep!
I think we should always have wednesdays off... its a nice break in the middle of the week.

So I'm just waiting to bite on one of these Mini Coopers. I'm going after the Cooper S, which is the turbo version. I test drove a couple and I had a stupid grin on my face the whole time :)

Theres an 09 just south of Atlanta that seems to be a pretty good deal. I'm waiting for the dealer to get back to me for more info about it. There was also an 07 in Miami that I like. I emailed him and showed him 3 other cars that were better deals price-wise so I'd like to see if he can come down a bit in price... then we'll have something to work with. The 09 is going for about 20k, so is the 07... so the 07 guy really has to come down for me to merit buying an older car.

Work is aight... I did a workshop yesterday at this subdivision and only 7 people showed up. Thats pretty lame considering the workshop has 5 staff that come, 3 that present info about water conservation, and 2 that set up booths with brochures etc. O well, hopefully those 7 came away with something.

I wanted to go out riding, or at least hang out with the monster today but its yucky out. That tropical storm really didn't do much but it's left a bunch of misty rain and clouds around and I'm not keen on hanging around at the barn all muddy...

I guess its a movie day... or I could finish up the Princess Bride. There's this box of books at work (mostly romance and dean koontz stuff) but at the bottom I found the Princess Bride! so I yanked that up and now I'm reading that. Its fairly similar to the movie but there's more back story about inigo and fezzik which is cool.

Ok well I think its time for some lunch.

5:51 pm - chilly con carne
All this week it has been SO hard to stay awake on the drive to work... I despise getting up before sunrise, I think its just wrong!

So two weeks ago was the irrigation workshop. I was amongst people who had been in the irrigation business 20+ years! Here's little old me who knows squat about sprinklers, trying to take a Landscape Irrigation Auditor Certification exam... hahaha not to mention I dont give a hoot about sprinklers!

I think I did ok though, what sucks is that I actually have to submit 2 audits to finish the certification. It has to be overseen by someone who is already certified... Dunno what Im gonna do about that part.

This past week I was in WPB at a Florida Water Star Home Certifier training... thats a program run by the water management district that will certify your home if you show you do certain water saving things. Its kindve a cool idea. You get a plaque to put on ur house and everything. That workshop was slightly less mind numbing but I can say that I was still not utterly captivated by low-flow showerheads, dishwashers, and dual flush toilets!

I have to take that test in a couple of weeks. Sucks that they dont do it AT the workshop but o well, I guess its another day out of the office!

WPB was nice, I got to see all the Pine Joggers, represented the Trebeks at trivia, and got to visit my mom.

Man, Ive never been truly IN Miami before but it really is like a foreign country... My mom lives pretty deep in there and it truly is Cuba hahaha! We went to a car dealership and even they approached us in spanish first! I had some good ass latin food tho... MMMMMMmmmm

In other news, Im taking violin lessons... Theyre going ok, the teacher hasnt run screaming with blood streaming from his ears so thats a plus :)
I've had the thing a while and plucked around by ear but this is helping me get a finer feeling for the thing instead of screeching away.

I think thats about the jist of it.

6:49 pm - I don't suck
I'm so glad that I got someone to trailer me to Greta's. One of the other boarders agreed to take me so I was stoked. I haven't had a lesson in over a year. I took a handful of lessons from Lisa Hyslop in WPB but that fizzled out because I didn't have any money and not much time to get out to her place.

I felt pretty comfortable with everything we did and Greta said the we looked much improved. I told her how infrequently I ride now and she was even more impressed. Kiko does get ridden once or twice during the week so I know that helps alot.. and the girl rides for Greta so she's definitely doing the old man some good.

but its nice to know that even with my own guidance I'm doing pretty well. I try to check out dressage sites etc to get tips etc so it gives me things to work on.

Anyways, I'm beat. I bet I'll be sore tomorrow!

8:40 am - angelfish=assholes
Ok so this might be the 3rd time I've replenished my stock of neon tetras... the first time I thought THEY had killed each other because I saw them chasing each other.

And I never found bodies so I was kind've confused but just let it got.

The second time I had 3 original survivors and bought about 7 or 8 more... they all died except 3 (who might actually be the original 3).

Well, a couple weeks ago I bought 10 (for a total of 13)... I have 6 left!! I actually SAW the bastard chasing one that eventually died then I saw him sucking on it trying to get it down :(

Good thing petsmart has a refund policy... so I'll return the 5 I found before the angel could eat them, then I think I'll stop torturing neons and quit buying more.

Damn that fish for messing with my aesthetics!

1:44 pm - ok, its barbaric but damn... thats some riding
haha, so this is dressage at its most practical... well i dunno if pirouettes in front a bull is practical but it is sure as hell more dramatic than watching a prix st george test!

I think if i saw this in person I would be torn by my feelings of disgust at killing a bull for sport but my jaw would be on the ground watching the riding...

but damn, Lusitanos are sexy horses!

9:07 am - oh yeah and another thing
America is retarded...

I want a new car but there are like NO cars that fit my specifications:

- cute
- very good gas mileage
- manual
- decently peppy
- under 21k (and even if it were ANY price... I STILL havent seen anything Im floored by)

The ONLY car that fits the bill is the Mini Cooper... which Im going to go check out today.

If I were in Europe I could choose from things like the Fiat 500 or the new Ford Focus (we totally got dicked on the US redesign, the euro version is WAY cute)

anyways poo on america for not having the car i want!

9:35 am - The New Job
So I started my new job yesterday. Sat through about 2 1/2 hours of orientation, most of it was the insurance and benefits mumbo jumbo... that was rough, cuz that crap is so confusing. Haha, especially since I've never HAD benefits before!

Everyone here seems pretty nice. They're all REALLY excited about this education program. I'm getting the feeling they think I'm pretty important :-P Hopefully I can deliver!

I have a big office that is bigger than my living room (which prolly isnt saying much since our townhouse is small, but still). I'm going to have to Nia-fy it b/c its pretty bare. I'll have to get used to not seeing the woods :( I don't have any windows... even if I did, there's no woods!

I'm excited that things fell into place. I'm glad that the decision to go to West Palm, as difficult and obnoxious as it was (and also great b/c I got to do some cool stuff and hang out with some great ppl), was the right one and it seems to be paying off. I'm happy that my cuban is happy, he was almost more excited than me when I told him I got the job :)

So hopefully this job ends up being fullfilling and challenging!

And I hope it doesn't rain tonight because I want to ride my monster!!

10:29 am - mouth goo
So I've come to the conclusion I can do nothing for about 3 weeks before I go nuts... This is week 4!

I have to do a health screening for the Ocala job on Thursday and I've gotta call and see when my start date is. I would really like to start next week if I possibly can.

Carlos had a cyst removed from the roof of his mouth and all 4 wisdom teeth taken out yesterday. So I've been playing nurse, haha not the sexy kind :-P
Changing out grody mouth gauze is not sexy! He was pretty groggy yesterday but seems to be better today, not too puffy yet.

It is hot as hell and I really don't like it! I rode on monday and Kiko and I were drenched before we even started! Its hard to motivate myself to really work him when its that hot and muggy out, but he's already looking fitter and I'm finally getting some muscles... WOOT!

I guess I could do some homework, but we all know thats not gonna happen!

12:45 pm - damn dog
So Indie got stung by something a week or so ago, and it was fine... you know, swollen, but it was going to go away on its own.

but no...

Indie and his OCD chewing caused him to rip a hole in his flank. We tried putting shorts on him, bandaging it, yelling at him whenever we heard him chew... nothing, he can't help himself.

So yesterday we went out and got an e-collar. lol, he managed to get it off a few times but I figured out that if I put his regular collar on inside the e-collar, it acts as an extra barrier so he can't pull it off.

now he just stands around looking emo.

Its his own fault!

2:19 pm - instead of doing homework, Ill update!
not much to update :-\

Had a 2nd interview for the Ocala job on Tuesday. I thought it went really well but its all up to them now. I'm starting to get cabin fever but I still think its too early to go out and look for p/t work b/c the Ocala ppl should be getting back to me some time next week... so if I don't hear anything next week then its onto plan B: find a p/t job and maybe volunteer somewhere so I can at least get my nature fix.

I've done some riding. I have been lazy tho, I just really hate the heat :(

My b-day was ok... marred by the fact that the Cuban has had this toothache since around tuesday and hasn't been able to get it looked at. So we didn't go anywhere b/c he wasn't feeling hot. I got a new lens for my camera and some nice sunglasses though! We went to the barn on friday to take some pics and they're up on the website http://niaphoto.d3f.org/

I'm just glad I got to spend it up here with my Cuban :)

That's about it... I guess I should get on to the homework

3:54 pm - until now that is...
Ok so I rode yesterday, and today... SORE! My goal is to do some good no-stirrup work since I want muscles and I want them now :) I only rode for like 1/2 hour yesterday, but it was productive. Bendy stuff and a few minutes of no-stirrups, which is where the soreness fits in. When I dont have my feet in the stirrups my elbows and wrists get tense, so I did alot of direction changing... I forsee many circles in my near future, but Kiko can deal with it. My other problem is that I have flaky contact with my thighs/seat... I'm still using too much calf. I'm hoping I can kind've reprogram myself since I haven't ridden in so long, and maybe correct my habits before they become habits again.

and maybe when I get a damn job I can do lessons again...

I have a second interview for the Ocala job on tuesday. I'm stoked that I made it to the short list! Its me against 2 other people. I have to give a 20 minute presentation. I need to tell them how I would plan and implement a public outreach program and model one. YIKES! Thats kind've scary. I mean I can do all that stuff, but its intimidating to do it like an audition.

Well, I managed to do my hw for one class... now I gotta do some crap for the DIS and work on the presentation for Ocala. At least I'm occupied in my unemployment :)

6:39 pm - I've got cobble stone joints and plate glass points
The interview went well, there were a couple things I wanted to mention but forgot about and a couple questions I think I could've answered better, but overall, I think they liked me. They asked about my NAI certification, so I used that as a jumping point to talk about how important it is to interpret natural resources and get people to buy into conservation and that I got into EE b/c I liked science but found that science people really can't speak to regular people :) hopefully that got me some brownie points...

It rained the entire way up to Gainesville, and the entire way down from Ocala. The drive was positively mind numbing. I think I got cabin fever for a while there... I really wanted to just hurl myself off the road just to break the monotony!

I have to reaaaaad for class but I don't wanna... procrastinate till the very end!

2:31 pm - Its getting hot hot hot
So its 2pm and there's only 2 people left in the office... I don't really have anything left to do so I might just leave early too!

There are just NO jobs being posted anywhere. I doubt that Payne's Prairie job is going to pop back up anytime soon. A few weeks ago I got an email saying it was put on hold for budget revisions but that they would contact me if it opened up again.

So it really is the Ocala job or TempForce!

Saturday actually turned out to be adventurous, lol. The gallery was boring as usual, but later on I went out to help Tracey dump some clippings (her volunteers were doing trail maintenance)... then I had to go back out and rescue her because she got her car stuck in the sand! We used the winch on the gator to pull her out, fun times :)

Sunday my mom came up with her new beau (thats so weird to comprehend). He was very nice, so I approve. They actually went out in Costa Rica when she was 13! She met him coincedentally a few months ago... crazy huh!?

We went out to Wakodahatchee even though it was NINETY FREAKING DEGREES! It was still worth it, there were nestlings and fledglings everywhere! I got a few shots in, but I didn't really want to hold them up with my picture taking. Then we headed up to City Place and had dinner at Taverna Opa. It was pretty good, I reeked of garlic afterwards though! She's moving back down at the end of the month so it will be nice to have the opportunity to see her more. She's going to be in Miami though, which makes it a longer drive... but not as long as NC!

9:25 am - Last time in the gallery
Oh what an exciting day I have in front of me!

I definitely will NOT miss working Saturdays, I still don't think we didn't really get the concept right on this one...

We had a staff breakfast yesterday. It was nice, on the beach in Lake Worth... It really made me want to go diving! Maybe next weekend when the cuban comes down. He'll be here next weekend then again on the following weekend, maybe we can go twice... hmm thats kind've expensive though, but prolly the last time we'll dive this year or at least till October if we decided to do the Keys trip again.

The day was ours at trivia on Thursday! The Trebeks finally won again! Only because the trivia guy gave us 20 pts for dressing up. We made t-shirts with Alex Trebek's head and "The Trebeks!" under it in the Jeopardy font, and we wore fake moustachios. It was AWESOME, pics should be on facebook shortly. I think they're doing some kind've tournament now so at least we have 1 win to count for it... 2 more weeks of trivia :( I definitely want to find a place in Gville for it...

The staff did my little graduation schpeel and I was glad it was kept short. Karen wanted other people to say things about me but we managed to change the subject :) As per tradition, they gave me a painting. Its a bit hotel-y (a great blue heron on the branch of a palm over looking some water), too bad we don't have a vacation house in the keys, it would go great there!

I hate that my interview is still a week away, it just lingers dammit! I'm especially anxious because the starting pay is much  better than I had originally thought... the job looked interesting anyways, and definitely up my alley, but the money makes it all the more tempting. I really hate interviews, they make me feel like a whore lol...

well, I actually have some crap I need to get done today so I guess I could get started on it.
